Testing Your Body

Since we have gotten a little more familiar with some of the major organs in our body, it is now time for us to explore how our own organs really function. Tomorrow in class we are going to use scientific inquiry and experimentation skills to investigate changes in our body systems. We will test to see if there are changes in our heart rate, breathing and body temperature as a result of physical activity. Individually, you will monitor changes in your body while participating in various activities such as exercising, resting and eating. Then when the experiment has been completed we will compare our findings as a class. This should be a very fun and interesting learning experience, so be ready to take note on how your organs really function. To get a head start, visit this website on the human body and take a look at some of the links under the circulatory system and respiratory system, they should be very helpful.

Bring on the Protractors!

Now that we have learned how to distinguish among polygons, regular polygons,
and other two-dimensional shapes, it is now time to take a closer look at the angles that make up these shapes. Tomorrow we are going to be looking at the protractor and learn how exactly it works as well as how to use it. This will help us for the next few lessons in the up coming weeks on how to identify and classify acute, right, obtuse, and straight angles, as well as in the construction of
these angles while using a protractor. Geometry is a great unit because it teaches us all about the shapes and angles that we see in our everyday life. Check out this geometry website so that you get an idea of what we will be learning tomorrow.

Remember, don't forget to bring your protractors!

Getting to Know our Organs

Tomorrow we will start the Understanding Life Systems unit in science and begin looking at human organ systems. Tomorrow we will be discussing how the body is made up of a number of organs and how these organs can be affected by a variety of factors. Throughout the next few lessons, we will learn to locate where our organs are in our body, as well as discover what the structure and functions of our major organs are. This unit is going to be filled with many fun learning experiences so get ready to take a deeper look on whats really going on inside our bodies. To get started visit this fun website which you can use as an introduction for this unit.

Looking at Polygons

During the next month we are going to begin diving into our geometry and spatial sense unit. Tomorrow we will start by taking a look at the different types of polygons and prisms as well as distinguishing the differences between them. This might sound a little overwhelming so I would like you to take a look at this math website to get a better understanding of what we will be doing tomorrow.

Have fun and come with your math caps on tomorrow!

Reminder

I just wanted to remind both parents and students to check out the websites that I have posted on the left hand side of this blog. The links are there for you to explore and enjoy so hopefully you do so. I also think that both students and their parents should take a look at this safe at school website, which obtains many useful tips on how to foster safe, strong and free schools and communities.

Resource Links for Students and Parents

Learning goes beyond the walls of the classroom therefore it is good to know how to exercise your mind and strengthen your knowledge online as well! To the left I have posted links for you to visit and have fun with.

Students, I have posted several different websites for you to have fun with, yes there are some educational ones, but I'm sure you will enjoy them. Stop by the Kids Know it website to being exploring how learning can be interesting and fun.

Parents, along with the other links I have provided for you, please take a few minutes to visit the
Parent Education website, as you may find some of the information useful and beneficial for yourself and your child's education.
